Day ONE : Round One Part One

Day ONE, Round ONE Part One

The eighth edition of the El Gouna International kicked off at noon today at the El Gouna Squash Centre with 15 Round One matches (there are 17 on Day Two) in the men’s and women’s PSA Platinum draws.

Six of the men’s matches went with seeding with Mazen Hesham and Mostafa Asal getting the Egyptian ball rolling and  the only upset coming in the last – and longest – match of the day as Edmon Lopez, a last-minute addition to the draw, beat Leo Au in four games.

There were plenty of close matches in the women’s draw as Nicol David survived in five against wildcard Jana Shiha, and Emily Whitlock and Tinne Gilis both came back from two games down while Mariam Metwally was the only Egyptian winner.
