From Eindhoven to El Gouna

From Eindhoven to El Gouna

Well, people that was a bit of a short turn over for us.

If Cubs (my partner in SquashSite Crime) was able to have a direct flight from Newcastle to Hurghada on Monday, giving him a day of rest on Tuesday, I had booked a flight from Paris on Monday afternoon to Cairo arriving late evening.

In theory, it would allow me to pack my Gouna stuff from my room in Cairo Monday night, to drive nicely on the Tuesday morning to Gouna, a nice 6h drive which I was looking forward to.

Why you may ask would you drive 6 hours when you can actually fly there in 1 hour? Well, first you have got to take a taxi to airport, that’s one hour, then wait 2 hours for the flight (internal flight is still 2h in Egypt), then 1 hour flight, then 1 hour drive from Hurghada to Gouna… That’s about the same, and at least in the car I can sleep.

Ok, my driver decided on Monday that he would double his price for next day journey, so had from Paris to find another driver. But that was sorted nicely. Man was on time and it would have been perfect if I didn’t forget a bag as we were about 20m away from my room, had to turn back and had a car broken down on the way that cost us about 1 extra hour drive!

Arriving finally in Gouna, as nice as ever, we are back in Ancient Sands which we made the opening of a few years back… And don’t miss our first day here if you didn’t read it already..

Last night, a nice meal at Moods, our “food” sponsor, bless them, Gouna wouldn’t be the same without them cooking and caring for us from day one…

Today, familiar faces at the squash centre, Tamer Mamdouh, my personal angel, also Squash Centre Manager and Masters Master! And the refs, bless them, still smiling at me, as it’s early days… They probably will hate me by the end of the week as usual…
