Day Eight : Quarters Part Two

Quarter-Finals Part Two

It was a night of upsets in the second day of quarter-final play at the Abu Tig Marina as Nouran Gohar and Fares Dessouky put out second seeds Nour El Sherbini and Mohamed Elshorbagy.

First up was an Anglo-French match in which Camille Serme came from a game down to beat SJ Perry, then it was three all-Egyptian battles.

It wasn’t an upset, but Karim Abdel Gawad‘s straight-game win over defending champion Marwan ElShorbagy was somewhat of a surprise.

Two huge upsets followed as Gohar put an end to a nine-match losing streak against Sherbini, winning in five tense games.

Dessouky finished the night with his first ever win over former champion ElShorbagy, to guarantee a new men’s champion.
