Day SEVEN : Quarters Part One

Sobhy comeback denies Egyptian clean sweep

We’re down to the last eight players in each draw, with the quarter-finals to be played over two evenings on the Glass Court at the CI Capital Arena at Abu Tig Marina.

Tonight saw Egypt’s double couple in action again but only three of them made the semis.

Top seed Raneem El Welily started the night with a solid enough four game win over Joelle King, and Tarek Momen finished the day with a similar win over Simon Rosner.

Ali Farag came through in three tough games against Paul Coll, but Amanda Sobhy denied an Egyptian clean sweep as she produced a stunning comeback from two games down against Nour El Tayeb [although an all-Egyptian men’s final is already assured].
