2019 Finals : Welily and Farag are the Champions

Welily and Farag are the El Gouna Champions

Raneem El Welily and Ali Farag are the 2019 El Gouna International Champions after victories in all-Egyptian finals at the CI Capital Arena at Abu Tig Marina.

Defending champion Welily was embroiled in a close tussle against Nouran Gohar, who had beaten the second and fourth seeds on the way to the final.

The first two games were shared then Welily fought back from 2-6 and 7-9 to take the third.

At 7-6 to Welily in the third Gohar stretched to the front and had to take an injury timeout. Upon her return her movement was clearly hampered as Welily finished off the match, helped her opponent off court at the end.

There was a similar ending to the men’s final as Farag and Karim Adbel Gawad both vied for their first title in their second El Gouna finals.

Farag edged the first game 11-9, then at 7-all in the second Gawad took an injury break for his ankle.

For the rest of the match he too was clearly not able to perform fully and Farag duly collected the title.
