R1: Mariam wins the Alexandria Derby against friend Zeina

Always tough to play a good friend, I like her husband very much as well, we are very good friends, they are like family to me.

But on court, everyone wants to win! And that was a plan today.

I knew I wasn’t 100%, but I just wanted to win. I was a bit stressed at the start. Then there were some tough decision, then there was an accident, my grip end of my racquet hit just below her eye, and I was worried for her. Also, I had flashbacks from previous matches, when there was an accident, I often lost the match!

So I’m really happy that I managed to win this time, that I managed to get back mentally in the match. But she played so well today, we played many times, but today, she was really fighting for every single point. I feel we both played well today.
