Nour El Sherbini (Egy) 3-0 Alexandra Fuller (Rsa) 11-6, 11-3, 11-4 (26m)
A good first game for the South African, with a very long first rally that sort of set the tone for the rest of the game. Nour, a bit surprised by the intensity of Alex I felt made a few errors in the first part of the game, 4 errors in 6 points! That doesn’t happen a lot. Five straight points for Nour from 6/6, and it’s 11/6 in the longest game of the match, 10m.
Hard to keep up that physical intensity for Nour’s opponents, the Egyptian in control from that point on, 8/, 11/3 in 5m in the second, and 3/0, 5/1, 10/3 and 11/4 in 7m.
Nour : I’d never played Alex before, so you have to expect anything.
In the first game, it was a bit bouncy, and we were both trying to see how to play. I needed the first game to adapt to the court and her game, but I’m happy in the end that I found my rhythm and my game.
I hope the weather gets better because it’s very bouncy on the court. It’s hard to play and the rallies are long. The short game doesn’t work that much because the rallies keep going on.
It cooled down after the first game, which was good.
Nele is playing really well and it’s one of her best seasons. I’m sure it’s going to be a good one, I’ll have a rest day, try to relax and see what happens in the match.
