Day SIX : Round Three part two

Round Three continued with the quarter-finalists in the bottom half of the draw to be finalised, once again with four afternoon matches at the El Gouna Squash Complex, then four in the evening at the CI Capital Arena.

Dessouky downs Rodriguez, Gawad escapes and Ramy retires

Wildcard Fares Dessouky produced the biggest upset of the event so far in the afternoon matches as he ousted sixth seed Miguel Rodriguez in four thrilling games. Nouran Gohar won her all-Egyptian battle with Zeina Mickawy,SJ Perry battled through against Annie Au and defending champion Marwan Elshorbagy breezed past Nicolas Mueller.

In the evening matches Camille Serme and Nour El Sherbini both won in straight games to complete the women’s quarter-final lineup, Karim Abdel Gawad came from two games down to deny Omar Mosaad and Mohamed ElShorbagy finished the round off with a straight-games win over Cesar Salazar.

The other big news of the day was the retirement announcement of three-time World and El Gouna champion Ramy Ashour. More on that later …
