Day THREE : Round Three begins
It’s Round Three in El Gouna and we’re down to one match at a time – eight last sixteen matches from the top half of the draws.
There was a big upset for Egypt’s Salma Hany who played superbly to oust third seed Nele Gilis, setting up a quarter-final against her sister Tinne, who survived a five-game encounter with Satomi Watanabe. Rowan Elaraby also won in five, beating compatriot Zeina Mickawy and she now faces top seed Nour El Sherbini.
In the men’s draw top seed Ali Farag came from a game down to beat Nicolas Mueller and now faces another match with Mohamed ElShorbagy, who was impressive against Youssef Soliman. Third seed Diego Elias eased past Ramit Tandon and now meets Tarek Momen, who ended the run of Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas.
