QF: Nouran expeditive against Gina

[1] Nouran Gohar (EGY) 3-0 [6] Georgina Kennedy (ENG)  11-5, 11-3, 11-4 (28m)

Normally I try and speak with the player that didn’t win but today, I didn’t have the heart to ask Gina what she felt about her match. I’m sure she would have graciously answered my questions, but still.

Today, Gina did everything she had to. She was never passive, she was very proactive, she was taking the game to the Terminator. But Nouran, today, had 5 answers for every question Gina asked.

The Egyptian has put some many new leafs on her squash tree, it’s incredible. She mixes her shots much more, varying pace, power, weight on the ball. She is still picking up shots that would be definite winners in any other racquet, but not only she gets it, but she kills you with it.

I am truly amazed by her progression, and she is in that accurate, calm mood, I don’t know who could get the better of her at this moment in her career. She is truly impressive.

“First of all I have huge respect for Gina, we go way back and have been playing together since we were 9 years old and it’s great to be playing against here at this level,” said Gohar.

“Im happy with how I played today. I’m adding stuff through the rounds. Mohamed [Gohar’s brother] wasn’t happy about certain things (she jests) but you can’t take any match for granted, it only gets tougher every round and I’m taking it one match at a time and I’m getting through the matches.

“I have to keep an eye on the match later (between El Hammamy and Hany). I’ll focus on myself first and analyse my game then have a look at who I’ll be playing and make a plan for that.”
