R2: ‘Revenge is sweet’, Fayrouz 3/0 Jasmine

[7] Fayrouz Aboelkheir (EGY) 3-0 Jasmine Hutton (ENG)  11-7, 11-6, 11-9 (32m)

Interesting match that one.

Firstly, both of them lost in the first round of Gouna last year, one playing Hania (Jas) and the other Nour El Sherbini (Fayrouz). Then, Jasmine had a great H2H against the young Egyptian, 4/0 on the PSA Tour!

To be honest, Fayrouz dominated the first game, 5/2, 8/4 10/5. A little bit of “oh my God I’m taking the game here’ wobble, but it’s still Fayrouz, 11/7 in 8m.

The second is a weird one, as Jaz seems in control, 4/0. “whatever you said to Jas worked”, I told YowNg who was advising her. “It’s early days” he smiled.

It was. She didn’t score another point until 10/4, Fayrouz playing splendid free squash, taking the second 11/6 in 9m.

In the third, nerves started to creep in for the young lady, who made 5 errors up to 6/6. She finally settled down, 7/7, 8/8, 9/9. It was still very much up in the air for Jas, she could still take that game, and probably, doubt would have started to creep in for Fayrouz.

A gigantic long rally at that point, ending with a lovely crosscourt kill for Fayrouz, and a no let to end it all, and it’s a loud shout from the young player, for the first time since she stepped on court, that she let her emotions show.

Fayrouz : It’s a very good feeling to win after 4 defeats, especially 3/0.

I would say that is one of my best moments on court, I played some good squash and at the same time, it’s a perfect revenge for me.

In the third, I started thinking about the defeats I had previously, and my focus went off a bit, it made it harder mentally for me to keep in the game, in the rally.
