Alex : It was tricky. Katie  is an up and coming player, she’s really good and we’ve played a few times on tour so I knew what I was in for. I knew I had to be on top of it and play to my best. I had to adapt in a few situations so I’m really happy to get through in three.

“I really had to push through in the second. I knew that was a crucial game to go 1-1 or 2-0 up. So that game I really had to close it out, try not rush it and I’m really happy.

“I’m looking forward to round two – I’m playing Olivia Clyne. We played last year and had a pretty good match so I’m hoping for another one tomorrow.”

Yathreb Adel (Egy) 3-0 Emilia Soini (Fin) 11-5, 11-7, 11-4 (19m)

Yathreb : It’s always different playing at home. I always want to have someone in my corner, which is not happening a lot when you are on the Tour. It’s fine to play without coaching but when we are playing in Egypt, and everyone is coming to watch, it adds a sort of pressure, you want to do well, and win, but at the same time, you need to keep your nerves down…

She is playing a superb lob drop game, even her serves are very high, tight, so I was just trying to get the ball back, she is waiting for you…

So today I was trying to put a bit more pace to the ball, which is not my natural game, which is bit the same than she has, so more pace in the drives and the crosscourts.

To be honest, I haven’t looked at who I am playing tomorrow. I know roughly where I am in the draw, but I just wanted to take one day at a time. There is no matches anymore that you feel you are going to win. So, just taking it match by match…
