R1: Siva win a tough challenge against Nada

[5] Sivasangari Subramaniam (MAS) 3-1 Nada Abbas (EGY) 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6 (47m)

Siva

Nada is a very good player, we’ve been playing all the way through the juniors, she is maybe one or two years younger than me, and we played a lot, we grew up together. She always gets good matches against the top players.

Sometimes, you’ve got to win, even if you don’t play your best squash. There is a bit more pressure on me because I’m the higher ranked player. I don’t think I played my best today, but to win that match was important to me.

I tried to really push myself mentally, as I felt a bit flat on court today. So those days, you just have to push yourself mentally, and not try to find your “perfect squash”, because you don’t feel at your best, and you won’t find your perfect squash. It’s about taking one point at a time.

I’m playing Zeina or Mariam. I played Zeina a few times, a bit like Nada, we grew up together, but I never played Mariam, in my entire career!
