Day SEVEN : Semi-Finals
Semi-finals night in El Gouna, with four compelling matches on the menu and four places in the 2023 finals at stake.
It was a long evening at the Conference and Cultural Centre with defending men’s champion Mostafa Asal claiming the last spot in the finals at 01.40 having stopped a Mohamed ElShorbagy comeback in the fifth. He’ll meet Ali Farag in the final after the world champion came from a game down to beat top seed Diego Elias to reach his fourth major final in a row.
The women’s semis started with a marathon repeat of last year’s final, top seed Nouran Gohar finally prevailing over Hania El Hammamy in 107 minutes. Belgium’s Nele Gilis produced a stunning upset as she beat world number one Nour El Sherbini in straight games to reach her first Platinum final.
