R1: Greg shines in front of son against Iker
Greg Lobban (SCO) 3-1 Iker Pajares (ESP) 11-5, 3-11, 11-9, 11-8 (73m)
Greg : It’s extremely hard to play against Iker. I think he plays better when he is down. I actually played him on Wednesday night in the Dutch League and also played him over the weekend. I always feel it’s going to be 50/50 against him. And it’s often who wants it more on the day. Today I really wanted it, reaching the second round of a Platinum, I haven’t done that in a very long time, I’ve been really disappointed with my results this season.
So, to get a win today, I’m really pleased.
It’s really special having my son and Donna coming with me on Tour.
It’s been difficult to start into fatherwood, but there is nothing in my career that’s been as special as this. It relaxes me. Half an hour before a match, I’m usually quite intense warming up. But then I sit with him and watch him eat my grip and my strings… I remember when I walked on court in Australia, I had teeth marks on the bottom of my grip, and mid-match against Marwan, and I looked at it, and I think it made me smile. It put squash into perspective, and he puts a smile in my life for sure.
