R1: Melissa contains Georgia in three, but tough…

Melissa Alves (FRA) 3-0 Georgia Adderley (SCO)  11-8, 12-10, 11-3 (32m)

Melissa

I’m trying to put into place the things we’ve been working on recently, so I was really focused on that.

Game-wise, I’d beaten Georgia 3–0 last time, so I came in with confidence, which always makes things easier. But it wasn’t simple. She’s the kind of player who runs a lot and gets everything back, so in the first two games, you really have to make sure you’re putting the work into her. Then in the last game, I kind of got the reward for the work I’d done earlier, where I’d been really attacking well.

I made things easier for myself by playing well, doing the right things, and implementing what I’ve been working on in training. And I’ve got a champion in my corner, which is really reassuring (Raneem El Welily).

The day after tomorrow, I’ve got the chance to play Big Nour. I usually play well against her — we always have big matches — last time I lost 3–2. This time I get to play on the glass court, with my dad here, and hopefully show him the very best of squash: she’s obviously one of the very best players, and I want to show that I belong up there too…
