PSA report
World No.2 Paul Coll kick-started his quest for a first El Gouna International title after overcoming Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in straight games.
Kiwi No.1 Coll, who arrives in El Gouna on the back of consecutive title wins at the New Zealand and Australian Open, continued his winning run thanks to an 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 victory over World No.22 El Torkey.
A composed performance from the two-time runner-up Coll saw him move away in both the latter stages of the first and second games, getting himself acclimatised on the all-glass court with some consistent lines and lengths.
El Torkey pushed Coll in the second game with some strong squash, but the No.2 seed never looked in any real danger of dropping the game, moving away from 6-6 with five straight points to double his advantage.
The third game proved a near-carbon copy of the second, with El Torkey impressing in spells but Coll ultimately having too much quality for the 21-year-old.
“It was quite tough getting used to the court conditions tonight. Once I sort of got myself used to it, I found my rhythm a bit more. He’s been in good form this season, so it was a tough test.
“I’m very confident in my squash at the moment, so hopefully I can keep that going this week.”
