R2: It’s 3/0 for Asal against Yahya
[1] Mostafa Asal (EGY) 3-0 Yahya Elnawasany (EGY) 11-2, 11-6, 11-6 (48m)
PSA report
Top seed Mostafa Asal delivered a World No.1s performance as he powered past the in-form Yahya Elnawasany in three games. Asal stretched his winning run on the PSA Squash Tour to 26 matches with victory – and in turn, overtook Nick Matthew to hold the fourth-longest unbeaten run for a male squash player on the PSA Squash Tour.
Elnawasany’s quick tempo of hitting only played into Asal’s hands throughout the 48-minute contest, with Asal able to push the pace and force his opponent into some brutal movements across the court. After dropping just two points in the opening game, Asal moved away to win the second from 3-3 with eight of the next 11 points.
Elnawasany managed to get a foothold in the third game after some lengthy exchanges in the opening points, entering the mid-stages within touching distance of ‘The Raging Bull’ on the scoreboard. However, it was Asal who once again had too much in the armoury when required, delivering a string of devastating points to seal the 11-2, 11-6, 11-6 victory.
Asal : “I have been playing with Yahya a lot since we were very young. He’s performing very well these days – he’s beating a lot of these top ranked players. He’s always dangerous, but we have certainly both improved since we played in U19s and U17s. I’m so happy for him that he’s making these kind of rounds at major events. Hopefully, he can continue to push and push.
“I will get back with my matches and study Leonel’s match from earlier. For now, it’s a rest day tomorrow, though.”
