R2: Hania solid against Kenzy
[1] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) 3-0 Kenzy Ayman (EGY) 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 (28m)
Good match I felt. Kenzy never stopped trying to take the game to her opponent. She played a solid all around squash, tight squash, adding some lovely deceptions that took Hania on the wrong foot.
Still, the World number 1 kept retrieving the great attacking shots from her opponent, and that gave a nice match to watch! Lovely long rallies, clean and fair squash.
One thing I noticed, Kenzy kept slipping, not sure if it’s her shoes, or if she likes to move with a bit of slide to it…
The contender was all the time in the game in the opener, she kept coming back close scorewise, even when Hania was creating a gap. 5/2, back 5/6, but Hania just put a bit more pressure on her shots and it’s 10/5 game ball, 11/7, 8m.
Hania was more in control the whole of the second game, 4/1, 8/3, 11/5, again 8m. The gap became bigger in the last game, 7/0, 9/1. As I mentioned already, Kenzy never gave up trying and she managed to score three points before bowing 11/4, 7m.
Hania : “I feel great. I feel much more comfortable on the court now and I got into the mood a bit. I’m excited for the rest of the event now. I tried to make myself a bit sharper tonight than I did last night.
“I think that Kenzy is very talented. She has great hands
“I have an off day tomorrow so I’ll study Fayrouz’s match and see how she did today. I haven’t played against her for a year or two, so it’s going to be interesting.”
