R2: Too many errors for Rachel against Clinical Olivia
[4] Olivia Weaver (USA) 3-0 Rachel Arnold (MAS) 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 (24m)
Rachel played some excellent squash at time, and showed us what she was able to produce in particular at the start of the 3rd, but after a huge rally, she went for far too short too quickly and paid a heavy tin price, 5 errors in 6 points, plus two errors to finish the game/match.
Rachel : I think I rushed it a bit, sometimes, I’ve got a tendency to do that a bit.
I missed a bit of consistency, and too many errors in the match. My fitness is always in the back of my mind, and in that regard, I doubt myself sometimes…
Olivia is top 4 in the world, to play at that level, I need to work on things to challenge them a bit more.
Olivia : “I felt great on here, I was exited to get out here on the glass. This is one of the most incredible venues on tour, just warming up and looking around is so cool and makes you really exited to get out here an perform.”
“Rach is such a skilful player and I knew I had to push up my T position so I could cover her short shots and I tried to not leave a lot in the middle. So I thought I played well today and looking forward to playing again on here in two days time.
“It’s always nice playing Tinne, they’re always clean matches and she’s an incredible athlete. She came through a tough one with Joelle, a legend of the tour, today so I’m always looking forward to playing her.
“Being included in the Olympics is something that all of us have been hoping for, for so long, It’s really exciting and the fact that it’s in LA is really great for me. I’m personally not thinking too much about that yet. I’m just taking it day by day, match by match and hoping to keep getting better and focusing on this event.”
